aponi asked:
My 18 month old learned to climb out of his crib in the last three days. Now he will not stay in it. He is too young for a toddler bed and i can not afford a 70 dollar crib tent plus they dont seem very safe. Does anyone have any cheaper suggestions?
I put my oldest in a toddler bed at 18 months and he starting only sleeping for about 6 hours a day. I would put him in for a nap and he would get right up and play. so instead of napping we would fight about bed for 2-3 hours. I was hoping to not have to put my youngest in a toddler bed til 2 but its not looking that way

if he is crawling out of his crib it is time for a toddler bed and a baby gate in his room there is no other solution for this one and its going to be a hard adjusment because he is a climber
Why is he too young for a toddler bed? Put a rail on it…
Nope. Nothing that’s going to be safer than a crib tent.
I think you just need to go to a toddler bed at this point because once he can climb out he is going to keep doing it and you can’t stop him.
Sorry! I am dreading that day myself!
I’d take the mattress out and put it on the floor. Maybe he would sleep there. Since he’s going to escape anyway at least he won’t fall.
Make sure the only thing you have in the crib is the mattress and put it down as low as it will go. He is almost two and that is about the age I put my children in a toddler bed and all the advice I have ever heard is when a baby is climbing out of the crib daily like that then he is ready for a toddler bed. It is much safer than having him climb out.
Make sure your crib mattress is on the lowest setting (most cribs have 3). Other than that I’m not sure you can stop him. Keep the area by his crib clear of hard objects, and maybe put a padded play mat in front of it to help keep him from hurting himself.
Good luck!
that means he is is ready for a toddler bed. he is ready trust me. my friends little brother did the same thing at 18 months and they got him a toddler bed. and a tent is safe. but he will learn how to unzip it.
just put the mattress on the floor and he will sleep on that.
18 months is not to young for a toddler bed. I know we all want them to stay babies forever but it just doesn’t work that way unfortunately. The only safe thing to do is to put this child in a toddler bed.
hes not too young for a toddler bed. my daughter was in one at 12 months. they recommend that if your baby is climbing out of the crib, then they should no longer be in one. i would suggest getting a toddler bed, so that your baby doesn’t fall, get stuck or get hurt.
If he can climb out you gotta get him in a real bed. Otherwise you risk him falling on his head. He is young for a toddler bed but if you can’t lower the mattress anymore, it’s what you gotta do. You’ll just have to give him age appropriate discipline until he learns to stay in bed and reward him for doing so
It’s time for a big boy bed mommy if he is climbing out!
